It’s not a lack of ideas that prevents your success. Rather, it’s a lack of execution.

One big challenge teams have nowadays is not that they’re struggling to come up with new ideas. Rather, it’s having too many ideas floating around with no execution plan.

Think back on all the brainstorming sessions you've had in the past year:

  • How many sessions were there?

  • How many different ideas came out of those sessions?

  • And more importantly, how many of those ideas actually ended up happening?

Remember, it's not the team with the most ideas who wins, but rather the team who make ideas happen.

So how can you turn your ideas into wins? Here are four strategies to consider:

  1. Weed out your list

Having too many ideas distracts your attention from focusing on things that really matter. By spreading your focus too thin, you're less likely to make progress with anything. Instead, focus on the top two to three ideas and commit your efforts there. For everything else, park them for later. By narrowing your focus, you can put more effort into making those ideas happen.

  2. Break down your goals into smaller parts

It's much easier to execute on smaller, more manageable goals than it is to tackle a large, overwhelming goal all at once. Break down your goals into smaller, actionable steps and focus on completing them one by one. This will not only make the process of executing on your ideas feel more achievable, but it will also allow you to make progress and see results along the way.

  3. Define your success

To successfully execute your idea, you must first define what success looks like. Determine criteria for when an idea can be considered done and use those criteria as your goals. This might include things like reaching a certain number of sales, achieving certain outcome, or hitting a certain revenue target. By having a clear understanding of what success looks like, you'll be able to better direct your efforts to achieving it.

  4. Keep fanning the flames

Maintain a momentum to keep your efforts going. Define and track next actions, assign accountability to specific individuals or groups, and have short checkpoint meetings to align and adjust efforts as needed. Make sure to let your team know about the progress and get their feedback and input along the way. By consistently working towards your ideas and involving your team, you'll be more likely to see them making success.

We all know making ideas happen takes persistent efforts and involves challenges and setbacks along the way. However, by following these strategies and consistently working towards your ideas, you'll be more likely to turn them into wins.

So to start 2023 with a bang, look back at the great ideas you already have and make a plan to execute them.

As Greg S. Reid puts it:

“A dream written down becomes a goal. A goal broken into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes your dreams a reality.”
